Happy Lunar New Year!!

Today was Lunar New Year and 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit!

We learned a little about the Lunar New Year today and also looked up what it was 'the year of ___' when each of us was born. The kids thought it was pretty neat!

Since it's The Year of the Rabbit, we made these adorable little guys...

This is kind of silly because we're living in S.Korea and these are actually really easy to find at all the stores and little shops, but we still thought it would be fun to make our own Korean spinning drums...

After we conveniently finished off the raisins during this morning's snack, I decided it would be the perfect base for our drums. So I cut it up...

And covered them in duct tape! :)

The kids each drew a rabbit on one side and we printed out "Happy Lunar New Year" in Korean to put on the other side.

We bundled straws for the handles and attached some strings with thick foam shapes and buttons for the beads (we didn't have any real beads in the house...we searched!), finished them off with some ribbons and then the kids enjoyed playing them all day. Thankfully, they are a pretty quiet kind of drum. :)

Happy Lunar New Year!!
